This Thursday at 12pm MT we will be talking to freelancer, author and educator, Heather Balogh Rochfort

Heather is a mama, writer, three-time author, and small business owner based in Carbondale, Colorado. She's been a freelance writer for 17 years, writing for some of the outdoor industries most coveted publications — Backpacker, Outside, Men's Journal, and more. Most recently, Heather started leading freelancer writing courses, The Freelancer's Playbook and co-launched a business and non-profit, WildKind, with friend Brooke Murray.

When not putting pen to paper (or fingers to keypad) Heather loves playing in the alpine with her family where the air is sweet, the sun is shining, and the oxygen depleted.

Thursday May 21st, @ 12pm MT, on BoldBrew's IG Live  @boldbrewteam

We asked Heather a few questions ahead of time for a little sneak peek at our upcoming IG Live session.

Made You Think: I realize this is anything but lighthearted, but the recent video footage of Ahmaud Arbery getting gunned down while running has sat with me ever since it came to light. It’s soul crushing to once again see that white privilege is alive and well in 2020, and I’ve spent a lot of time ruminating on that while marinating in that same privilege and contemplating how I can better the world for my daughter and other kiddos who don’t have the same privileges that she does. Senseless deaths like his shouldn’t be a flash in the pan on social media that disappears with the next headline. What is wrong with us?

Made You Laugh: Our daughter is potty training and had her first in-the-wild experience this weekend. Needless to say, she is fascinated with all-things bathroom right now, a fact I learned while trying to take care of my own business.  I found myself squatting in the backcountry, all while she yelled, “GREAT JOB, MAMA! YOU’RE GOING TO THE POTTY!” Three cheers for toddler bathroom support!

Made You Dance: We have the Coco soundtrack on repeat over here (toddler life!), so every night is a dance party in our kitchen where my husband and I take turns twirling her around to the vibrant Mexican guitar music.

Made You Create: Man, I feel like I’m always creating these days! Whether it’s written articles, book manuscripts, science experiments for our daughter, flower gardens in our yard, digital courses for new freelance writers, or budding entrepreneurial endeavors, I like to start from scratch and see what happens. It’s fulfilling to make something out of nothing.
